Secretariat Communications is a small business that helps get publishing projects across the finish line so your work can reach your intended audience — whether that’s a handful of trusted friends or global distribution

Hi, I’m Josie

In the first 10 years that I worked in print and digital publishing, I often wished there was a place that combined content strategy, production, and marketing, all under one roof. Finally it dawned on me to just create the ideal company I wanted to work with! Today, Secretariat Communications brings a streamlined and laser-focused approach to content marketing — so that instead of coordinating with multiple agencies, you only have to work with one person.

From my home office in the Ditmars Steinway neighborhood of New York City, I work with a broad range of authors and publishers, as well as entrepreneurs, scholars, nonprofits, global companies, and other types of individuals and organizations. Some past and present clients include Reuters, Routledge, the Minnesota Committee on Foreign Relations, and the U.S. State Department.

The name Secretariat Communications is a nod to both the racehorse and the United Nations building in Manhattan. Speed, stamina, and agility are central to my approach to content creation. The name also reflects the start of my career, which included stints with the State Department and in magazine publishing.

These days, the majority of my week is focused on:

  • Content creation: Websites, blogs, books — whatever we need to get the message across!

  • Marketing and PR: Press releases, op-ed articles, email campaigns — the list goes on for ways we can spread the word.

  • SEO and strategy: Between search engine optimization (SEO), engagement stats, and data reporting, I keep an eye on the numbers to make sure we’re on the right track. I can also advise on best practices, and support you and your teams with EOS — the Entrepreneurial Operating System for vision/traction organizing.

Secretariat Communications is also home to Rare Bird Publishing, an imprint that publishes books. Two pilot projects recently went live: Collected Poems by Alexander Palache Gutterman, and a “modern Gothic” psychological thriller novel by Cornelius Corvidae, Stranger In The Fire. The process was a lot of fun and we’re looking forward to scaling it up — more books to come!

Let’s collaborate!
